How to Run This Drill
  1. 1
Player starts at normal depth at their position.
  2. 2
Coach rolls or softly hits a slow ground ball.
  3. 3
Player charges in, fields on the run (outside the glove-side foot), and throws to first in one motion.
  4. 4
Emphasize bare-hand pick-up on very slow rollers.
  5. 5
    8 reps per player.
Equipment Needed
  • Baseballs
  • Gloves
  • Bat (for fungo)
  • Bases
Coaching Tips
  • Don't wait for the ball — go get it. Time is everything on a slow roller.
  • Field outside the glove foot so your body momentum carries toward first.
  • Younger players can start with the ball already on the ground, no bat needed.
