How to Run This Drill
  1. 1
    Outfielder starts in ready position.
  2. 2
Coach points left or right — player takes a drop step and sprints on an angle.
  3. 3
After 3 dry reps each direction, coach throws or hits fly balls over the player's head.
  4. 4
Player must drop step, turn, and run to the ball — then look up to find it.
  5. 5
    6-8 live reps per player.
Equipment Needed
  • Baseballs
  • Gloves
  • Bat (for fungo)
Coaching Tips
  • Never backpedal — it's slow and leads to falls. Drop step and run.
  • First step: pivot on the ball of the foot, open the hip, and go.
  • Start without the ball so they learn the footwork before tracking a fly ball.
