How to Run This Drill
  1. 1
Pitcher starts with feet in the stretch position: front foot toward home, back foot on the rubber.
  2. 2
Come to a complete stop with hands together at the chest (come set).
  3. 3
Look over the shoulder at the imaginary runner on first.
  4. 4
Deliver the pitch to the catcher.
  5. 5
10 pitches from the stretch, then 5 more with a live runner to hold.
Equipment Needed
  • Baseballs
  • Gloves
  • Mound or flat ground
  • Bases
Coaching Tips
  • Must come to a complete stop — a balk in real games if you don't.
  • Practice varying the hold time to keep runners guessing.
  • Slide step (shorter leg lift) for faster delivery with runners on base.
