How to Run This Drill
  1. 1
Set up the pitcher and catcher at regulation distance (46 or 60 feet depending on age).
  2. 2
Throw on flat ground — no mound.
  3. 3
Round 1: 10 fastballs, focus on mechanics and hitting the catcher's target.
  4. 4
Round 2: 10 pitches mixing locations — up, down, inside, outside.
  5. 5
Round 3: 10 pitches simulating game at-bats (first pitch strike, waste pitch, put-away pitch).

  • Baseballs
  • Gloves
  • Flat ground
Coaching Tips
  • Flat ground reduces stress on the arm — great for between-start bullpens.
  • Focus on mechanics, not velocity. Flat ground is where you fix problems.
  • Have the catcher call pitches to simulate game situations.
