Wrist Flick Drill

Isolates the wrist snap to develop backspin and the feel for proper release. A quick warm-up drill for any age group.

How to Run This Drill

    Partners sit on the ground facing each other, about 10 feet apart.
  2. 2
    Hold the ball in the throwing hand with the arm extended straight out.
  3. 3
    Using only the wrist, flick the ball to your partner.
  4. 4
    Focus on snapping the wrist forward — the ball should have tight backspin.
  5. 5
    20 flicks, then move to kneeling throws, then standing throws.

  • Baseballs
  • Gloves
Coaching Tips
  • This is the foundation of a good throw — the wrist snap creates backspin.
  • Fingers on top of the ball, snap through. Ball should rotate backwards.
  • Great first step in a progressive throwing warm-up: wrist → knee → standing.
