How to Run This Drill
  1. 1
Player catches a fly ball or picks up a ground ball in the outfield.
  2. 2
Immediately takes a crow hop: small hop forward onto the back foot, then step and throw.
  3. 3
Target is a cutoff man or a base.
  4. 4
Start with short throws (60 feet), progress to long throws (120+ feet).
  5. 5
8-10 reps focusing on rhythm: catch → crow hop → throw.
Equipment Needed
  • Baseballs
  • Gloves
  • Bat (for fungo)
Coaching Tips
  • The crow hop creates momentum — it's the outfielder's version of a pitcher's stride.
  • Don't jump too high — stay low and move toward the target.
  • Throw through the cutoff man's chest. One-hop throws are fine and often more accurate.
